Beautiful Redwood true old growth.... Highly sought after, some live edge. Slab cut, corner 90 deg. Measurements are on piece in pictures, including thickness at bottom of piece. Double drum sanded both sides, then orbital to 80 grit. Wheel brushed edges, some burn, Adding character. Significant checking, yet stable material. Water misted to show grain.
Beautiful figuring including magnificent, some quilting, specific primarily to old growth, due to pressurization of weight near bottom at stump area. While cleaning property in Crescent City, CA. And removing major blackberries discovered a treasure of Old Growth redwood in various stages of processing... Some very large stumps, some cut, etc. Must have been a previous old growth slab business.
Salvage had to be done.... Hard work, but worth it.
Originally trees were cut from ancient forest over 100 years ago, stump extraction over 30 years ago. Was very pleasantly surprised to see the resilient wood beneath.
